The Valley Stream Council of PTAs held its 18th annual Legislative Breakfast on March 15 in the Memorial Junior High School cafeteria. A number of notable dignitaries were on hand for the event. The breakfast, a community-based outreach meeting that brings together elected officials and the residents they represent, was attended by Valley Stream Mayor Edwin Fare, Town of Hempstead Councilman James Darcy, Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages, New York Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, New York Assemblyman Brian Curran, and Tom Locascio, district chief of staff for New York State Senate Majority Leader Dean Skelos, along with school officials from each Valley Stream district. The Valley Stream community has long enjoyed a special rapport with state legislators, and the hope is for the good relations to continue well into the future. The gathering of community members, state legislators and school officials at the breakfast stands as a true testament to the continued priority that residents and their representatives have placed on educating the community’s most precious asset – its children. The event gave legislators the opportunity to listen and respond to concerns and suggestions from Valley Stream residents.“Valley Stream is a place where every child is worthy of respect, a place where great teaching matters, a place where true appreciation of difference is essential for a quality education, and a place where we are all learners,” said Valley Stream Central High School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill Heidenreich. “The members of the Valley Stream Boards of Education are universally committed to identifying actionable solutions to improve education in order to better meet the needs of our students while also respecting our taxpayers."
