The Washington Post has announced its ranking of the most challenging high schools nationwide, placing South High School No. 47, North High School No. 52 and Central High School No. 63 among the ranked schools in New York State.
In addition, South High School ranked No. 600, North High School ranked No. 656 and Central High School ranked No. 802 out of more than 2,000 high schools nationwide.
The rankings are based on the number of college-level tests, including Advanced Placement and International Baccalaureate, given at a school in the previous calendar year divided by the number of graduates for that specific year.
“Our district is proud to, once again, be recognized by The Washington Post for having several of the most challenging high schools in the state and nation,” said Valley Stream Central High School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill Heidenreich. “It is impressive to have our schools ranked in the upper half of eligible schools statewide, and in the top third of those schools nationally. We have a strong academic program in the district, one that challenges and supports our students. And each year, students continue to reach new levels of academic excellence. I congratulate all of our high school building principals and respective faculty and staff for their continued efforts in fulfilling the district’s educational mission and ensuring our students continue to receive the finest education in our Valley Stream schools.”
