Valley Stream Central High School junior Abiezer Regino was elected as a New York State Thespian Officer and is helping to fulfill the missions of the New York Thespians, International Thespian Society and Educational Theater Association. He is among approximately seven STOs, most of whom are from Long Island and Queens.
Last year, Abiezer attended the New York State Thespian Festival, where he took interest in serving as a volunteer. He attends monthly meetings with his fellow STOs, during which events and ideas for improving educational theater are discussed. The group seeks to raise funds to help schools that are in need with regard to theater programs. The STOs are currently planning this year’s state festival, as well.
The STO status also provided Abiezer with the recent opportunity to participate in the Broadway Back to School benefit. The event supported the International Thespian Society's efforts to provide theater arts education for underserved students and schools.
Abiezer has been involved in school theater and musical activities since the eighth grade, when he held roles in shows at Memorial Junior High School.
He was since featured in the high school’s Brothers Grimm “Spectaculathon” drama production and performed in the dance concert. He is a member of the International Thespian Honor Society, chorus, band and jazz band as a vocalist and trombonist. He hopes to pursue his passion for performing arts and helping others in the future.
