This past school year, Central High School’s EnviroCentral Club spearheaded a successful anti-littering campaign, “Keep Valley Stream Clean.”
Club advisers and members created commercials that discourage littering on the school’s Eagle TV, as well as organized and implemented two successful cleanups along Fletcher Avenue. They also hosted a poster contest in which students entered their original artwork while supporting the campaign’s mission. James Calender was named the contest winner.
In addition, the club visited the owners of local businesses to discuss the club’s campaign. Several establishments, including Magic Bagel, Rosa’s, The Deli and Boston Market, placed the club’s anti-littering poster on display for customers to see.
The EnviroCentral Club will continue the initiative during the new school year to promote the importance of maintaining the environment while making a difference in the community.
