Memorial Junior High School recently hosted its annual Stand Up and Speak Out Day, an event where students unite and pledge to take a stand against bullying. Stand Up and Speak Out Day was established at Memorial Junior High School in honor of Stephanie Ginsberg, a health teacher at the school for 42 years who died in August of 2012. Ginsberg was active in teaching students the importance of speaking out against bullying and being an upstander, not a bystander. Both students and staff wore pledge shirts to send a non-confrontational message of resistance to bullies. In addition, students attended open forums during their lunch periods with Central High School students, who visited and discussed the effects of bullying and the importance of being supportive of others. Central students also shared their personal stories about bullying situations and how they addressed them.
