South High School hosted its second annual Empty Bowls Fundraiser on April 27. The event raised funds for Holy Name of Mary Church food pantry and was sponsored by the school’s Art Honor Society. Empty Bowls is an international grassroots effort to fight hunger. Art students donated bowls they made out of clay, and those in attendance made donations in exchange for a variety of soups. A number of businesses contributed to the cause. A local Panera Bread donated soup and bread, and Valley Caterers in Franklin Square also donated soup for the event. Students and teachers also made soup. Entertainment for the evening included performances by the school’s Step Squad and Cultural Society. The student cast of the school’s upcoming musical production “Leader of the Pack,” was also on hand, and several student-actors performed the song “Be My Baby.” The fundraiser was enjoyed by students, teachers, administrators and community residents, and made for a memorable night for a good cause.
