Nineteen students from Valley Stream North High School’s Ecology Club participated in a tour and volunteer day at Crossroads Farms at Grossmann’s in Malverne, NY on May 23. They were joined by their advisor, Stephanie Restuccio and Principal, James Bolen.
Crossroads is the closest working farm to NYC and strives to be a leader in sustainable agriculture. In 2006, it was saved by the Nassau Land Trust and has since become a certified organic farm.
The group from North received a tour of the farm and learned about its history and day-to-day operations. The students then volunteered their time to help with chores on the farm by weeding and composting. The club plans to visit again in the fall.
