The Valley Stream Council of PTAs held its 19th annual Legislative Breakfast on March 14 in the Memorial Junior High School cafeteria. A number of notable dignitaries were on hand for the event.
The breakfast, a community-based outreach meeting that brings together elected officials and the residents they represent, was attended by Valley Stream Mayor Edwin Fare, Town of Hempstead Councilmen Edward Ambrosino and Bruce Blakeman, Nassau County Legislator Carrie Solages, New York Assemblywoman Michaelle Solages, New York Assemblyman Brian Curran, New York State Senator Dean Skelos, U.S. Congressman Gregory Meeks and a representative from U.S. Congresswoman Kathleen Rice’s office. School officials from each Valley Stream district were also in attendance. Continental breakfast was prepared by the Valley Stream Central High School District Culinary Institute.
The Valley Stream community has long enjoyed a special rapport with elected officials, and the hope is for the good relations to continue well into the future. The gathering of political leaders, school officials and community members at the breakfast stands as a testament to the continued priority that residents and their representatives have placed on educating the community’s most precious asset – its children. The event provided political leaders with the opportunity to listen and respond to concerns and suggestions from community residents.“The Valley Stream Central High School District was pleased to assist the Council of PTAs in hosting this important event at Memorial this year,” said Valley Stream Central High School District Superintendent of Schools Dr. Bill Heidenreich. “The event unites our legislators and school district leaders with the community, and allows for valuable, open dialogue about our schools, students and the future of education. It also allows for input for members of the Valley Stream Boards of Education, who are and will continue to be committed to identifying solutions to improve education in order to better educational experiences for all students.”
