Central High School junior Katie Mazalkova won third place in the 2014 Nassau County Public Speaking Competition sponsored by the Theodore Roosevelt Association.
In the semifinals, Katie competed against 32 students representing 12 Nassau County high schools. In the finals, she competed against 13 students for a top spot.
For the competition, Katie had to develop and deliver an original five-minute speech on Theodore Roosevelt’s life and legacy that was evaluated by a panel of judges. For her performance, she was awarded a grant by New York Community Bank.
