Seven Memorial Junior High School students recently participated in the STEM MathApps Academy at Hofstra University. Following an application process across Long Island, only 50 students were chosen to participate in the academy. Memorial had the highest representation of any other school.
The academy, which ran from February through May, provided students with access to a university setting and allowed them to interact with other students while developing problem-solving and critical thinking skills in a team setting. Students also learned to apply math and programming skills to the creation of apps and video games.
Parents, teachers and friends were invited to attend a special ceremony at the end of May, where students demonstrated and explained the bodies of work they had created during the program’s workshops.
The district congratulates the following students who participated: Saeeda Bano, Eleni Demas, Rana Igra, Tasnova Osmani, Manav Sehgal, Amrit Singh and Jonathan Val.
