Students, parents, teachers and administrators throughout Valley Stream were in festive spirits on Oct. 25, when North, South and Central high schools celebrated their 2014 homecomings.
At North High School, the day started with the annual Varsity Breakfast, sponsored by the North Spartan Club. Following the event was the school’s annual homecoming parade, where students marched to the music of the North High School Marching Band. Students also proudly displayed their banners, which were aligned with this year’s theme, “Carnival.” The North Spartan Club also hosted a special recognition ceremony on John Miele Memorial Field for the school’s fall season senior athletes, where honorees walked between the goal posts with their families to celebrate their athletic achievements.
North High School spectators turned out for the big game against Hewlett High School and welcomed this year’s homecoming King Blake Benitez and Queen Elizabeth Rossi. The halftime show included performances by the school’s cheerleading and kickline teams and marching band. In the end, North defeated Hewlett, 22-8.
Central High School’s homecoming was held at Firemen’s Field in Valley Stream. The theme for this year’s celebration was “Game On.”
The afternoon kicked off with a colorful banner parade, which featured banners created by student clubs and organizations. Students made their way around the field during the procession and later hung the banners on the fences surrounding the field.
Students, parents and administrators gathered on a beautiful day to show their school spirit, before the Central High School Eagles took on East Meadow High School.
During Central’s halftime event, homecoming King Winston Jones II and Queen Gigi Panier were announced, and the school’s marching band and cheerleaders performed. Though Central High School was defeated in the contest, the celebration served as a day of pride for students, faculty, administrators and community residents.
South High School began its homecoming celebration with its annual indoor festival, and afterward, students, parents, staff and administrators gathered for the traditional parade around the school’s track. This year, the school’s theme was “Disney/Pixar.”
South High School classes and clubs proudly displayed their themed banners as they walked the track, along with the marching band and homecoming King Christopher Oliveira and Queen Kimberly Oliveira.
Attendees took to the bleachers to witness the South High School Falcons face off against Cold Spring Harbor and also enjoyed performances by the marching band, cheerleaders, and kickline and step teams during halftime. The homecoming celebration was one to remember, as the Falcons defeated Cold Spring Harbor, 38-20.
