Two seniors in the district have been selected to participate in the New York State School Music Association’s All-State ensembles. North High School student Daniel Sansky and South High School student Allyce Yang will perform at the 2015 NYSSMA Winter Conference in Rochester from Dec. 3-6. Additionally, North High School senior Morgan Foster was chosen as an alternate.
Bass clarinetist Daniel was accepted to the All-State Wind Ensemble. He has participated in All-County groups several times, as well as the District Music Festival and Community Band. Daniel is a member of the Tri-M Music, National, Science, Math and Languages Other Than English honor societies. He also plays varsity volleyball.
Allyce, a violist, was selected for the All-State String Orchestra, for which she was an alternate last year. She is a four-time participant in All-County concerts as well as Long Island String Festival Association concerts. She was also featured in the District Music Festival for three years and has performed with the South Shore Symphony as principal violist. Allyce excels academically as well and was recently named a National Merit Semifinalist.
Morgan plays the French horn and has a history of All-County and District Music Festival performances. Like Daniel, she is a member of the Tri-M Music, National, Science, Math and Languages Other Than English honor societies. She also participates on the cross-country team.
"These students are to be congratulated for their talent and hard work,” Dr. Adam Erdos, the district’s coordinator of fine and performing arts, said. “Selection to All-State groups, either as a member or as and alternate, is one of the greatest honors that a high school musician can achieve and is a testament to the effort, dedication, and hours of practice that these students, and their teachers, consistently make to attain it."
