Dear Parents:
I would like to share some information with you about an incident that was reported to me by Sgt. Balsan of the Fifth Precinct.
Sgt. Balsan called to inform us that a 14 year old North student was
approached by a male black in his 20's driving a newer model white truck
(or SUV) at the corner of Franklin Avenue and Palermo Court, by Eastern
Meat Farms. The individual asked the girl her name and asked her if
she wanted a ride. He did not exit the vehicle or try to grab the girl.
The girl felt uncomfortable and went inside the bagel store and called
her parents. Her parents called the police. When the police arrived
the car was gone. The 5th Precinct Detective Squad is investigating the
incident.
I am sharing this information in a proactive way with our community to
keep our kids safe. Knowledge is power. Please take time this evening
to speak to your child about the best way to respond to an incident such
as this. We will continue to teach stranger danger safety responses to
our students and we will continue to notify you whenever an incident
such as this is reported to the District.
The safety of our children is our top priority.
Dr. Bill Heidenreich
Superintendent of Schools
