South High School eighth-grader Max Neiderman continued to display his winning knowledge of world geography by once again earning first place in the school-level competition of the National Geographic Society’s Geography Bee.
Max competed against 25 of his peers and scored the highest of over 400 seventh- and eighth- graders at South High School in the pre-competition screening round.
The school geography bee, where students answered questions on geography, was the first round in the 27th annual National Geographic Bee.
Following the event, Max took a written qualifying exam for the state-level competition. The top 100 scorers will be eligible to compete in the New York Regional Bee later this spring. The state champion will receive an all-expenses paid trip to the National Geographic Society’s headquarters in Washington, D.C. on May 11-13, to compete for a $50,000 college scholarship and a lifetime membership in the National Geographic Society.
South High School’s geography bee was organized by social studies teacher Franco Visone, along with Social Studies Chairman Michael Serif, and eighth-grade teachers Jill Brady, Brian Case and Michael O’Brien. Max is pictured with Mr. Case and Mr. O’Brien.
