Valley Stream North High School junior Rose DioLallevi had the opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall from Feb. 4-8 for the High School Honor Performance Series. She earned this prestigious experience, which was sought by students from all over the world, after being selected as a Finalist for the Honors String Orchestra based on a rigorous audition process.
The five-day event included an intense rehearsal schedule with a world-class conductor, as well as entertainment and sightseeing activities around Manhattan. The high point for the students was a gala concert, which they performed on the world famous Carnegie Hall Stage.
While some might presume the High School Honor Performance Series to be a once-in-a-lifetime occasion, this was actually Rose's second time being selected. Last year, she attended as a member of the Symphony Orchestra. “Performing with more advanced musicians helps your playing,” Rose said. “Everyone learns from each other and it is a great experience.”
Rose has studied the violin in Valley Stream schools since the fourth grade and also plays the viola. She has participated in the New York State School Music Association’s All County groups for many years as well as the Long Island String Festival Association, and is a member of North High School’s Orchestra, Cello Club, Pit Orchestra, Tri-M Music Honor Society and “The Breakfast Club” string ensemble. Outside of school, Rose is involved with the Metropolitan Youth Orchestra and the Long Island Youth Orchestra.
